Run The World

Pre-training has been going well. I've been mostly a good egg about sticking to the schedule. It's currently a run, cross train, rest, run, cross train, long run, rest or run cycle. I wasn't planning on taking any of the rest days but Monday was a moderate distance run (4 miles) and Tuesday which should have been a cross train day, my body was having none of it. I woke up feeling off and by noon, I put in personal leave for the day and went to bed. No I'm not that big of a wimp. I felt like I had eaten mushrooms or taken erythromycin (mild allergy to both that makes me feel like I have a sever ulcer for a day or so). It hurt to lay down, it hurt to sit up. Native 2 is in a full blown grass allergy attack and needed to come home in the middle of the day (Hunter was kind enough to pick him up) so we laid in the bed for a while snuggling. It was probably one of my better days even though I thought I wanted to die a little. I still needed to pick-up and drop off Hunter from an errand he needed to do that put us down to one vehicle (I have not come up with a catchy cave related name for car, things considered include wooly mammoth and flinstonesmobile, neither seem to fit) and I still needed to get Native1 from school because Hunter was in a meeting. My best guess is I ordered something for dinner the night before that I used to order frequently, but it might have been too heavy (read greasy) for my current diet/lifestyle. I made up for it with a lift that was more peaceful than productive the next day. I like having my gym days feel like enjoyment rather than a desperate need for my brain to shut up. I like having a little 2 minute chat with a friend while on my rests. I was worried that after a rest I was going to be focused trying to shut up that part that tells me I'm still too fat, too slow, not strong enough, not graceful, not good at anything, not disciplined enough. It was there but it wasn't very loud so I was able to chat and lift without loud angry music drowning out the world. I did have the distinct pleasure of lecturing a gaggle of middle school brats that are loud, mistreat the staff, leave messes, and misuse the equipment. They made fun of me after I walked away and their biggest insult was to call me sir (and if you want to know how shitty my brain is, it really did take me a full hour of saying to myself "you don't look like a man, they are bratty little shits" before I started sort of not being bothered by it).
Saturday is supposed to be another 5 mile run. The first one wasn't great so I'm hoping this one goes a little more smooth. I had a mental block the first time that made me tense up, which caused a side stitch I needed to walk off in the first mile but everything went okay after that. Hunter has asked for a male bonding ritual with the Natives this Saturday evening (improv) so I'm going to do what any good Gatherer should do and buy shoes. I'm going to give in and get fit (fitted?, man English is not my strong point) for good running shoes. This is probably good because it looks like I'm up for another 5 mile adventure on Monday. I've been building a playlist for running anytime a song hits that feels motivating, its mostly Linkin Park at the moment. I have been listing to a youtube play list a friend gave me that is this catchy pop cardio mix, its good and peppy on the low miles but I feel like I'm going to need songs that speak to me when I hit double digits. Funny enough we both tend to listen to 90's rap when lifting but don't have much of it in our running lists, we will see what ends up sticking. After all I'm going to need at least 4 hours of music (yep, definitely questioning my sanity). Sunday we plan on going to a Renaissance Fair so expect ridiculous family costume pictures next week.
Also if you don't know the song reference this week its from the queen, Beyonce. While its one of the best pumped up woman power songs I've heard in my life, it doesn't feel like we run the world especially lately. Still catchy so I'll allow it as my running pun of the day.
