So usually, when it comes to things I do with and for others, I am an uberplanner. I don't make lists per se but I research the hell out of things, I make schedules, I read a thousand reviews, I watch videos, I pre-stage pack, I read every tip, every blog from the last decade I can find. When it comes to stuff for just me, I couldn't be more wing it, fly by the seat of my pants if I tried. I will throw clothes into a bag 1 hr before I leave for an airport. I will buy the first thing that shows up in amazon (or whatever the sales person suggests if I'm unfortunate enough to need to be in a physical store), I will yelp to find a place to eat with keys in hand walking out of the hotel or even worse just pull into a place that seems relatively popular and convenient. No plans. These two Gatherers are both me and I really don't have explanations for how they exist in the same brain.

If I was planning for the Natives to run a marathon, I would have spent months researching teams, plans, equipment, schedules... you name it, there would be a paper set of notes on my desk. Not to mention the months of debating the best athletic activity for 2 wild natives. Me, on the other hand, my friend says wanna run a marathon and I say sure. I go to the shoe store and buy the 3rd pair I tried on (the first two felt funny or I probably would have just gone with the odd yellow ones she brought out first). I realized I needed some sort of running bag cause the one I literally pulled out of my hiking supplies felt too heavy so I bought the first one on amazon. I realized my favorite water bottle (which I lost yesterday damnit) would be to bulky so I bought a collapsible cup (first one on amazon) because someone said they were better than collapsible water bottles. No research, just bought it. Why I am I telling you this? Well, part of the whole, I don't plan shit for myself means I'm super chill about my things. As in here's an important email for this thing you signed up for you should read it... I definitely didn't. I did not read the email that explained all the terms and jargon and other super important things to know. I did pay attention enough to see there were 2 (maybe three but definitely 2) pre training schedules. I made the assumption that one was for people training for the half, and the other was for people training for the full. When the full training schedule and manual came I did I read that either. No. No I did not. I kept on keeping on all week. Here's the funny thing I learned on Tuesday. The training schedule I followed in the weeks leading up to official training, was the Elite training (all the cry laugh emojis here please) not the Novice. I am most assuredly novice, I still get a little shocked I can actually run more than a mile. I'm flabbergasted that the words "oh its only 3 today" came out of my mouth MORE than once this week. I realized it after my running mates were very confused about how many miles I was putting in. I decided yesterday to I don't know...read the actual training manual. Changed that running calendar REAL quick like.

Moral of the story, as someone who spent years saying things like per my prior email and fussing at tiny natives to follow directions I probably should have taken my own assvice! I won't get fooled (by me) again, and if you aren't singing The Who right now you should be.
